Clipper ship "Janeen"?
Back in the 1947 ... yes, I'm that old ... I spent the summer learning how to sail from a gnarled old seaman, Emmanuel ("Manny") Oldman. Mischievous old sailor; fond of practical jokes; drunk most nights. When I got a toothache, Manny fixed me up with a plug of chewing tobacco soaked in rum: must have worked, because after that the toothache didn't seem so bad.
Anyway, Manny had sailed on clipper ships as a lad - China trade I think. And his favorite had been the "Janeen". He always wore a sweater embroidered with her name.
But I've never been able to find any record mentioning a clipper ship named Janeen.
Any suggestions / clues would be appreciated.
Do you know where it would've sailed out from? You might start there, if you know or can find out, and look up names of clipper ships registered there. Unless it was a famous ship, it's not likely to be found anywhere online until and unless someone puts archives on a website for people to access. You might also try genealogical groups as they may be of some help. Not sure on that one.
