Why was life for the homesteaders of the great plains often very difficult?
I need it in Open Response form. It was a American History Question and I need the answer. My question was " Life for the homesteaders of the ghreat plains was often very difficult. Discuss some of the hardships that these people encountered.
Can you imagine having to fight for food and shelter every day.
They didn't have refrigerators to keep food or light bulbs. They got up when the sun came up and went to bed when the sun went down. They had little shelter from the elements, can you imagine being just 5miles from your homestead, on the open prairie and a hail storm hit, no place to go.Don't forget the Indians, they weren't happy you were on their land.
You know everyone keeps asking about the meaning of life on here, in those days the answer was simple, survival.
One thing in their favor though, they didn't have to buy gasoline.
Another thing, how would you heat your homestead in the winter, there wasn't much wood on the plains.
