How much postage would I need...?
My letter is a standard envelope with a sheet of paper, and then 29 poptabs and a piece of string inside.
Approximately how much do you think that weighs, and what postage would I need?
PS--Don't ask what the poptabs are for.
I need to get this out today, and I don't have anything to weigh it with or any way to get to the post office.
If you are using a standard letter sized envelope the poptabs will make it nonmachinable which requires a $.17 surcharge if it is under one ounce. There is no surcharge on pieces over one ounce. So the rate would be $.58 for a one or two ounce letter. 3 ounces would be $.75. It would be best if you taped the tabs to the piece of paper so they don't slide around which can cause them to get hung up in machinery and the envelope being torn up. It would really be best if you could use a padded envelope. The postage would be more, $.80 for the first ounce and $.17 for each additional ounce, but it would really protect the contents much better and ensure that your piece gets delivered. If you use the regular envelope and the tabs make it more than 1/4" thick then you would have to go to the $.80 and $.17 for each additional ounce rate.
